Sure, it’s not Nashville or Memphis, but Franklin, Tennessee — named Best Small Town in Tennessee — offers its own unique charm that is worth checking out. Whether you live in Franklin or you are visiting, you can find something interesting to do in this city.
Located within the Middle Tennessee region, Franklin is the eighth biggest city within the state. It gives you a mix of small town charm, history and Southern style. Here are some of the top things to do in Franklin when you visit:
Walk Main Street
You will find Main Streets all around the nation, but not award-winning ones. Franklin’s Main Street was designated a Great American Main Street from the National Trust for Historic Preservation the first year the award was given, which was 1995. This street was later named America’s Most Romantic Main Street.
When you walk the brick sidewalks of this quaint street, you will find a variety of small businesses offering a mixture of antiques and new items. This city has been considered One of America’s Greatest Antique Destinations.
Engage in Downtown Events
You will find a variety of special events throughout the year in Franklin’s downtown section. There are a few major ones that are definitely worth your time to check out. Pick a Friday, any Friday (actually, the first Friday of every month), and you will find the Franklin Art Scene event. As you walk throughout the downtown, you can admire the work displayed in over 30 studios and galleries.
Look for the annual Main Street Festival, which offers family-friendly fun that includes International cuisine, arts and crafts, street dancing and a host of other fun activities. Another popular annual event is the Dickens of a Christmas event. This exciting occasion focuses on Dickens’ works with characters acting out the stories, along with street dancers, horse-drawn carriages and other excitement.
Starting before the rest of the country got on board with the craft beer craze, Franklin has been throwing its annual Main Street Brew Fest for over a decade. Come to this event to taste a large variety of craft beers and enjoy festivities. These are just some of the many fun events you can find in Franklin throughout the year — be sure to keep up with local news so you don’t miss any of them!
