Dr. Gil performing a spinal adjustment on a patientSpinal adjustments are also known as spinal manipulation. These are the names for the practice of putting the spinal vertebrae back into alignment by slightly moving the vertebrae back into place. The vertebrae can go out of place because of injuries like a car accident or because of daily activities and poor posture.

A chiropractor goes through many years of schooling and is trained to give adjustments. He uses his hands or an instrument to apply pressure and to put the out-of-place vertebrae back where they belong. The movement of the spinal manipulation happens quickly. It does not usually cause any pain or discomfort. You might hear a popping or cracking sound, but this is nothing to worry about. It occurs because gases like nitrogen and oxygen leave the joint; this is known as joint cavitation and it is completely normal.

An out of place spine can prevent the nerves and body’s systems from working properly, and prevent the nerves from sending messages to the brain properly.

Spinal adjustments can help put the body in its best state to heal itself and for optimum health. When the spine is aligned, every system of the body is able to operate as it should. Alignments can also prevent health conditions from occurring because the body is working at its best.
