Bulging Disc Problems? Find Relief Here
It’s important to understand the differences and meanings between the terms degenerative, herniated and bulging discs. You need to know so you can understand your treatment options!
First, a little about your spinal anatomy: Flexible, gelatinous discs act as cushions between each of the vertebrae in your spine. They enable you to bend, twist and move in many directions. The jelly-like substance inside the discs is encapsulated by a fibrous outer membrane. Nerves from your spinal cord pass through the gaps between the vertebrae (cushioned by the discs) and out to the rest of your body. When your discs aren’t operating correctly, that’s where the issue arises.
Many bulging disc sufferers experience too much stretch in the outer membrane, but not all of them suffer back pain or sciatica symptoms as a result. But if the bulge pinches the nerves, damage may be happening whether you feel it or not!
Herniated disc patients frequently report pain because an injury or chronic posture problem has caused a breach in the outer membrane of the disc and the inner jelly has started to squeeze out and press on nearby nerves.
Patients with degenerative discs do not actually have a disease; it is a condition (frequently, but not always age-related) in which the discs diminish and become dehydrated so that their shock-absorbing affect within the spine decreases.
All of these conditions can happen separately, or in combination with each other. They can occur as a result of other health problems, or they can result from an injury or long-term poor posture. Frequently, they do cause back pain, neck pain and sciatica, requiring treatment from our degenerative, bulging and herniated disc doctor. Franklin patients have options!
How Bulging Disc, Degenerative & Herniated Disc Patients Find Relief
We want to stress that none of these situations need to be permanent or debilitating! We have been providing successful bulging, herniated, and degenerative disc pain relief in Franklin for years—without surgery and without drugs! Just a few of our disc treatments include:
- Spinal Decompression—This gentle, highly-targeted form of traction reshapes damaged discs! By creating suction pressure inside the bulging, degenerative or herniated disc, Franklin spinal decompression patients enjoy nerve pain relief and rehydration of the discs.
- Chiropractic Adjustments—Discs can be damaged due to misalignments of the spine. So patients often find that spinal adjustments provide bulging, herniated and degenerative disc relief. We are highly trained in several types of spinal adjustment that can be customized to your individual needs.
- Class IV Laser Therapy—Many patients struggle with injury-induced herniated, bulging or degenerative discs. We often uses laser therapy to stimulate cellular healing and regeneration deep inside the discs and any surrounding damaged tissues. This therapy also stimulates endorphin production, which relieves pain.
